Ginger root is used in a large variety of methods. For its flavors and medicinal properties,this wonderful root is added to various dishes, teas, oils, and juices for fitness purposes.  Here are some ideas:

Broccolini Stir Fry

Ingredient for 4 servings:

  • 1 ½ pounds of broccoli (2 large heads)
  • 1 medium red onion
  • 1 orange bell pepper
  • 2 portobello mushroom caps
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 2 teaspoons ginger, grated (a 2-inch nub) 
  • 2 tablespoons of rice vinegar 
  • 2 tablespoons of soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Sriracha hot sauce (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • Pinch of himalayan or sea salt. 
  • 2 cups of sauteed shrimps (if you want protein)

Directions:

  1. Chop broccoli into large florets (about 6 cups of florets total). Chop the red onion into bite sized squares. Dice the pepper into bite sized squares. Remove the stems from the portobellos (if necessary), slice them into strips, then cut the larger pieces in half. Place all of the vegetables in a large bowl.
  2. Mince the garlic. Peel the ginger and grate it. Place them together in a small bowl.
  3. Stir together the rice vinegar, soy sauce, and Sriracha in a small bowl.
  4. In a large skillet over high heat, heat the oil. Add the broccoli, broccolini (if using), red onion, bell pepper, and mushrooms and cook for 6 to 7 minutes until just starting to brown on edges, stirring occasionally.
  5. Add the garlic and ginger, cook for 1 minute more until broccoli is crisp tender but still bright green. Turn off the heat and add the sauce, stirring until combined. Taste and add additional pinches of salt as necessary. 
  6. Serve immediately with rice (optional). Garnish with sesame seeds and green onion (optional)

Immune-supporting shot

Ingredients for 2 servings: 

  • 1-inch length piece fresh ginger, scrubbed clean.
  • 1 large lemon or orange. 
  • Pinch fine sea or himalayan salt, optional.
  • Tiny pinch cayenne pepper, optional.
  • 1 teaspoon honey, optional.

Directions:

  1. Chop the ginger into thin pieces small enough to fit in your juicer.
  2. Cut away the yellow peel from the lemon or orange, leaving most white pith and lemon/orange flesh. Cut into slices and remove any seeds.
  3. Turn the juicer on and push everything through, alternating ginger and lemon/orange.
  4. Stir in a pinch of salt, a tiny pinch of cayenne (optional), and honey (optional). Divide the juice between small glasses and enjoy.
